Claude E. “Gene” Wiggs

Herrin- Claude E. “Gene” Wiggs, 76, of Herrin, passed away at 6:46 PM, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Herrin Hospital.

Gene was born on October 25, 1938 in Anna to Claude R. and Roberta (Cerney) Wiggs. He began working many years ago at Skelly’s Truck Stop in Marion and several years in mobile home repair. He ended his career working the press at Sheller Globe UTA.

He was Baptist and attended Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers and enjoyed spending time outside on his porch swing and with his grandchildren.

Survivors include-

Son- Scott Wiggs and wife Donalle of Zeigler

Daughter- Melissa Gibson and husband John of Zeigler

Son- Darrin Wiggs of Herrin

Son- Shane Wiggs and wife Amber of Herrin

Eleven Grandchildren:

Gabby Dover of Zeigler

Paige Wiggs of Zeigler

Zach Wiggs of Zeigler

Arika Gibson of Zeigler

Dawn McCool of Ohio

Sam Gibson of Zeigler

He was preceded in death by his parents and son- Stephen Wiggs.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 9, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Jerry Schell will officiate. Entombment will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

    Gene was a wonderful person. He always seen the good in everyone. I always enjoyed being around him because he was one of those people that had a loving heart.
    My thoughts and prayers are with Melissa, Arika, my grandkids; Cait, Max, Victoria and the rest of Gene’s family.
    You’ll be sadly missed.
