Dorothy Marie Gower Loyd, 94, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 17, 2016, while surrounded by family members.

She was born December 30, 1921 in Williamson City, Illinois to William Aud Gower & Pearl Mae Owens. Dorothy married Sherman Ray Loyd & enjoyed years of marriage before his death on October 20, 1997.

Dorothy is survived by: her daughter Vita Mae Malcolm & son in law Donald Malcolm of Benton; Two sons, Jerry Ray Loyd & daughter in law Sondra Loyd of Marion; Ronnie Loyd of Marion; Ten grandchildren – Mike Malcolm, Dottie Malcolm Darr, Anthony Loyd, Eric Loyd, Ronnie Loyd, Jr., who she raised, Robert Malcolm, Tracy Loyd, who she raised, Lynn Loyd Schuetz, Debbie Malcolm Williams, April Loyd Paulat, several great and great great grandchildren; Sisters Linda Clark of Carterville, Maxine Emery of Marion and Shirley “Flora Mae” Summers of Marion; Brother John Gower of Marion and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by: her mother; father; brothers; Virgil Gower, Audie Gower, Paul Gower & Mickey Gower; granddaughter Pamela Malcolm Bouseman and great granddaughter Ashton Kathleen Williams.

Dorothy was a cook for Washington School and Egyptian Café in her younger years. She worked for Allen Industries in Herrin later in life.

Dorothy loved family gatherings in her home. She had an exceptional Green Thumb and could grow anything. Her grandchildren,great grandchildren and great great grandchildren were the love of her life and she was very devoted to them. Our family has her to thank for the traditional yearly Easter egg hunt, 4th of July fireworks and Barbeques

Dorothy will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11 am at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in Egyptian Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral Home.

For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association to honor her late husband. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.

    So sorry for your lose Aunt Dorothy was the only one to come and visit my Mom Betty up to her Death in 2010. I did not here about Aunt Dorothy until late Sunday Night. I would tried to make it today but I had a lot of Heart Test going on Monday Morning. So please for give me and God Bless all of you at this time of Sorrow.
