Marion- Dennis Dean Gooch, age 80, of Marion, passed away at 10:45pm on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Dennis was born in Marion on November 3, 1934, the son of Lyle V. and Lillian L. (Stroud) Gooch. He married Virginia Odom in Spillertown on February 4, 1961. She survives in Marion.

Mr. Gooch was a member of Spillertown Baptist Church. He enjoyed attending the Marion First Baptist Church in the mornings and the First Church of God in the evenings. Dennis had retired as a supervisor for GTE after forty years of service. He was a Korean War Veteran.

Survivors include his wife- Virginia Gooch of Marion

Daughter- Crystal Wright of Marion

Three brothers- Gene and Jane Gooch of Marion

Mike and Loretta Gooch of Marion

Tom and Barbara Gooch of Marion

Five Grandchildren- Jody Wright

He was preceded in death by his parents; son- Dennis W. Gooch in 2013 and two sons in infancy- Dennis Dean Gooch, Jr. and Dallas Steven Gooch.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Roy Pepmiller officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

    My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I remember Dennis from several years ago when some churches met together for an annual United Thanksgiving Service. I think Dennis helped someone (maybe Bill Sanders?) do the planning for the services. My husband (Kenny Johnson) was a Baptist pastor for almost 40 years so we always participated in these services. He died in June 2013 (following a long battle with cancer). He always spoke highly of Dennis, and I remember him as a kind Christian man. My heart goes out to you all.
