Billy Ray Weeks, 78, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2:40 am at Herrin Hospital.

Bill was born December 12, 1936 in Goreville the son of Oather and Helen (Denison) Weeks. He married Alice Ann Yewell on August 3, 1957 in Marion and together they have shared over 57 years of marriage.

He was an Army veteran and a member of the Marion Third Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon for several years. Bill retired from United Parcel Service (UPS) after 32 years.

When Bill wasn’t driving his grandkids around on one of his many tractors, or playing cards with friends, he could be found at Third Baptist cooking Wednesday night meals or attending Sunday service. Over the years he became known for his incredible skill in his woodshop. When the grandkids were away and the Kubota was parked you could find Bill sitting side by side with the love of his life Alice, on their porch swing just watching the traffic go by. Holidays were always a favorite because he would try to sneak a sweet treat when no-one was looking.

Survivors include his;
Wife – Alice Ann Weeks of Marion
Son – Glen Weeks and wife Beth of Collinsville
Son – Mark Weeks and wife Lizzie of Carterville
Four grandchildren;
Christine Weeks of Maryville
Chad Weeks of Rapid City, South Dakota
Matthew Weeks stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky
Logan Weeks of Carterville

Preceded by his Parents and Sister – Geneva Bennett

The memorial service will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 12 pm at the Marion Third Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Shackley and Rev. Scott Kallem officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service at the church. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.

For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Third Baptist Faith Promise Building Fund. Envelopes will be available the day of the service at the church or by mail to Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.

    Alice Ann and Family: I was so very sorry to read of Bill’s passing. Whenever I visited Marion and returned to the Third Baptist, I always looked around to see if I recognized anyone. Usually that was you and Bill.

    Whenever I visited the Yewell home near the park, your Mother always talked about the grandkids. She was so very proud of them. I will keep your family in my prayers. They hold a special place in my memories.

    Alice and Family:

    A recent devotion in Our Daily Bread referred to “a faith toward God that has gone out, so we do not need to say anything”. (1Thes. 1:8) Bill’s life spoke of the God he loved. Words cannot express what Bill meant to us. We will deeply miss him. Sorry we cannot be there at this time to express our sympathy in person.

    Hi Alice and Family,

    So sorry for your loss, I will be praying for the family. We all loved Bill and family so much. We enjoyed our visits with Grammie and Aunt Bonnie and whom ever else came with us. The family reunions, pig roasts and corn on the cob will always be a happy memory for me and our family. May God give you all comfort and happy memories during this time. Pam
