Virginia L. Allen

Herrin- Virginia L. Allen, 91, of Herrin, passed away at 12:15 PM, Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Herrin Hospital.

Virginia was born on November 3, 1917 in Freeman Spur to Lee & Dassey (Draper) Hines. She married V. O. Allen on April 5, 1946 in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1985.

Mrs. Allen was a retired school teacher, having taught at Freeman Spur and Chittyville Elementary School.

She was a member of the National Education Association and Community of Faith Church in Marion.

Survivors include-

Daughter- Vivian Hamby of North Carolina
Son- Russell Allen of Herrin
Grandchild- Bryce Allen Frey of South Carolina
Grandchild- Elizabeth Anne Avery & husband David of North Carolina
Three Great Grandchildren-
Jared, Wyatt & Olivia Anne Avery of North Carolina

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband & one sister- Mildred Oldani.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. David Maragni will officiate. Burial will follow at Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor�s choice and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
