Virginia Ann Harlow

Herrin- VIRGINIA ANN HARLOW, age 88, of Herrin, passed away at 9:15pm on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Herrin Hospital. Virginia was born in Fort Benning, Georgia, the daughter of Herbert C. and Lena Faye (Gullic) Duncan.  She married Willis Edward “Bill” Harlow in Mount Vernon, Illinois on June 24, 1951. They shared more than sixty-three years of marriage, until his passing on July 18, 2014. Mrs. Harlow was a member of the Herrin First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being active in Sunday school classes and also serving on several committees.  Prior to her retirement, Virginia had worked as a secretary in Mount Vernon, sales at Montgomery Ward, and a clerk at Nancy’s Flowers in Herrin. She enjoyed riding the motorcycle with her husband, and skiing and camping at Crab Orchard Lake, where they were also members of the Crab Orchard Boat and Yacht Club. Survivors include: Daughter- Leah Marie (William Jewel) Bethel of Raymondville, Texas Son- Bradley Scott (Sherrie) Harlow of Carterville Daughter- Patricia Lynn (James Robert) Groves of Mulkeytown Four grandchildren- Haley Groves and Dylan Dunmyer Jewell (Brandon) West Kyle (Erin) Harlow Dustin (Cynthia) Harlow Six Great Grandchildren Two Brothers- John Duncan of Centralia J.P. Duncan of Rochella Brother-in-law- Richard Farmer of Cape Girardeau, Missouri Several Nieces and Nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandchild- Virginia Ellen Carney, four brothers- Fred, Russell, Herbert and Frank, three sisters- Ruth, Margie Marie, and Elizabeth Joann, and sister-in-law- Shirley Ann Farmer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Bill Wiggs, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm-2:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Herrin First United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
