Virgil Eugene Strunk, Sr., 83, of Marion, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 12:05 a.m. at Herrin Hospital.
Virgil was born December 17, 1933 in Johnston City, the son of Oscar and Younil (Taylor) Strunk. He married Delois Marie Corder on February 26, 1954 in Chicago and together they shared over 54 years of marriage until her death on May 19, 2008.
He was a member of the 1st United Pentecostal Church of Johnston City. Virgil was a residential and commercial painter.
Survivors include his;
Daughter – Beverly Raudenbush (Robert) of Carterville
Daughter – Paula Marie Sprague of Marion
Son – Virgil Strunk, Jr. (Melanie) of Marion
Daughter – Lana Walker (Nathan) of Marion
Seven grandchildren;
Trisha Markham (John), Alicia Sprague, Aaron Strunk (Leslie), Nathan Strunk, Stephanie Sanders (Nick), Hannah Walker and Noah Walker
Eight Great Grandchildren
Sister – Lanta Pauline Carter of West Frankfort
Several nieces and nephews
Preceded by his Parents, Wife – Delois Marie Strunk, Granddaughter – Sabrina Lynn, Two brothers – Oscar Strunk, Jr. and Howard Strunk, Sr., Four Sisters – Tempa Watkins, Mary Beardon, Bobbie Minor and Mimoth Johnson
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 11 am at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Glasco and Rev. Brandon Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 – 8 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
For those who prefer memorials may be made to the 1st United Pentecostal Church of Johnston City. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
