Marion- Samuel Brown, Jr., age 82, of Marion, passed away at 9:10am on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Integrity Healthcare of Herrin.

Samuel was born in Marion on August 11, 1936, the son of Samuel and Ruby (Owens) Brown. He married Constance Dolores “Dee” Rinella at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion on February 13, 1960. Together, they shared over fifty-five years of marriage. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2015.

Sam was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. He had retired from GTE Telephone Company, working as a cable splicer. He and Dee loved camping and their cross country motorcycle trips.

Survivors include-
Daughter- Dalyce Rupert of Marion
Son and Daughter-in-law- Chris and Kathy Brown of Carbondale
Five Grandchildren-
Matt and Ashley Rupert of Philadelphia, PA
Sarah Rupert of Los Angeles, CA
Dax Gunnar Brown of Marion
Dalton Hunter Brown of Carbondale
Samuel Joseph Brown of Marion
Two Great Grandchildren- Lucian and Caedmon Rupert of Philadelphia, PA
Brother-in-law- Ernest Rinella of Marion

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister- Virgie Hart, and infant brother.

As per his wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion with Father Brian Barker officiating. Inurnment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be presented by members of the Marion VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147, and the United States Marine Corp Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 am until the time of service at the church.

Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.

For those who prefer, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available the day of the service at the church or by mail to Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
