Rose Marie Jensen

Herrin- Rose Marie Jensen, age 89, of Herrin, passed away at 5:45pm on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Parkway Manor Nursing Home in Marion.   Rose Marie was born in Carterville on September 19, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Hannah (Phillips) Colp. She married George O. Jensen in Cairo on June 30, 1956. Together, they have shared sixty years of marriage.   Mrs. Jensen was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Herrin. She graduated from Carterville High School, the class of 1945.  Prior to getting married, Rose Marie worked as the assistant office manager at the Metropolitan Company in Carbondale. After getting married, she focused on being a homemaker, loving wife, and mother. She was an avid sports fan and loved attending Saluki football and basketball games.  Rose Marie served as President of the Herrin Band Parents and proudly volunteered at the Herrin Hospital Gift Garden, where she donated more than 5000 hours.   Survivors include her loving husband- George O. Jensen of Herrin Son and daughter-in-law- Eric and Marie Jensen of Oak Park, IL Daughter and son-in-law- Caroline and Greg Phillips of Ames, Iowa Many beloved family and friends   She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters- Zella Coriasco and LaDora Sizemore, and infant sister- Delores Colp.   Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Ron Henwood officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be held from 11am-1pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.   For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Herrin Hospital Auxiliary.
