“I learned about Roger's demise only now, from the SIU Alumni Magazine. I am saddened. When Roger was the head of the computing lab in the early 1990s, he always helped me when I had problems with the Prime Mainframe computer that SIU had then. As graduate students, we also took one or two classes together. He was a friendly, helpful man. I remember vividly several conversations that I had with him on various topics. My condolences to his family.

Roger was a friend with whom I shared many fun-filled poker games. Always happy to help out friends with their various home projects, Roger was also a very competent engineer. Registered as a professional engineer in the state of Illinois, Roger ably served Southern Illinois University for several decades. He will be missed by all, students and friends whose lives he touched.

Roger had such a good soul and always so engaging to visit with. I enjoyed the Memorial Day weekends that would give me the opportunity to visit with so many of my relatives. I will remember Roger and the stories he told of days past in growing up on the farm. My deepest sympathys to Dennis, Francine and Gene.
