Rev. W. W. Childers, age 86, died Sunday, April 8th at 8:45 P.M. at Marion Memorial Hospital. Visitation began at 5 P.M. Tuesday, April 10th at the funeral home. The casket was moved to the Second Baptist Church in Marion at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11th for funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Burial followed in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Rev. Childers was born December 31, 1914 in Johnston City to Jesse and Flora (Warsham) Childers. They preceded him in death. He married Irene Kirk on July 30, 1939 in Johnston City. She survives. He is also survived by: 1 son, Phil (& Jo Anne) Childers of Louisville, KY 1 daughter, Brenda Kay (& David) Chaffee of Collinsville, IL 4 Grandchildren: David Childers of Louisville, KY Todd Childers of Louisvlle, KY Matthew Childers of Louisville, KY Laura DuFrenne of Thebes, IL He was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Ira Childers and Loren Childers, 2 sisters, Lillie Hoover and Lillian Linton. Rev. Childers was a Baptist minister for 62 years. His pastorates included: 1) Second Baptist in Herrin 2) Third Baptist in West Frankfort 3) First Baptist in Carterville 4) McKinley Avenue in Harrisburg 5) Energy First Baptist Following his pastorate at Energy, he spent seven years in the evangelistic ministry. He then pastored Elm Street Baptist in Murphysboro for 16 years. He moved back to Carterville and pastored First Baptist in DeSoto and then returned to Second Baptist in Herrin. He served one year as Senior Citizen Minister at Second Baptist in Marion before retiring. Rev. Childers did interim work until his death. He had also served on the Radio and Television Commission for the Southern Baptist Convention for eight years. He was currently a member of Second Baptist Church in Marion. Memorials may be given to Marion Second Baptist Church Together We Build Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
