Rennie Hughes

Herrin- Rennie Hughes, 78, of Herrin, passed away at 8:30 PM, Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Rennie was born on November 1, 1938 in Herrin to Ren and Teresa (Merlo) Berra.  She married Terry Hughes on June 18, 1960 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.  He preceded her in death on October 18, 2008. Rennie Hughes meant many things to many people.  She was the most loving, dedicated, and caring: Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Wife.  She was an outstanding and well respected Registered Nurse, committed to the highest level of medical care and personal compassion for every patient she touched.  She began her nursing career at Herrin Hospital and then later as a nurse for Dr. Robert D. Kane and then Dr. William F. Hays, both of Herrin. Rennie was an avid traveler.  She enjoyed exploring the world both early and throughout her entire life.  She had many friends and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.  She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and was a graduate of OLMC School. She had an unwavering faith and was committed to her Catholic teachings and foundation. She frequently told her loved ones that she led, "a charmed life".  In fact, she was a shining example of an individual that enhanced the quality of her own life by loving and contributing to the well-being of family, friends, and even strangers. Survivors include- Son- Dr. Christopher Hughes of Herrin Granddaughters: Miss Marlo Hanna Hughes of Edwardsville, IL Miss Sofia Fox Hughes of Herrin Sister- Mrs. Catherine (Berra) Bleem of Havana, IL Niece: Mrs. Jeanice (Bleem) Kaiser and husband Jerry of O’Fallon, MO Nephews: Mr. John Ren Bleem and wife Anita of Ft. Collins, CO Dr. Bernard Bleem and wife Sherry of Mahomet, IL Mr. James Bleem and wife Sue of Walsh, IL Dr. Renold Bleem and wife Melanie of Havana, IL Several great nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandson- Michael Anthony Hughes. A memorial visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, May 5, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.  A private graveside memorial service will be held at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin.  Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate.  Private inurnment will follow at San Carlo Cemetery.
