Betty J. (Gibbs) Beyers

March 25, 1941 — January 14, 2017

Betty J. (Gibbs) Beyers, age 75, of Creal Springs, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 in St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  She had suffered a severe stroke.  Her two daughters and her son-in-law were by her side.  Betty was born March 25, 1941, in Williamson County to Ezra Gibbs and Geneva L. (Robertson) Gibbs.  Betty was a devoted mother and wife who was affectionately referred to as Sugarplum by her husband, David.  She and David were married November 15, 1986.  During their marriage, they worked side by side to finish their home.  They owned a 1964 Olds 442 that they took to car shows all over the country.  They loved their family and their church family at Arnold View Baptist Church immensely.  David preceded Betty in death on December 25, 2015 and she has been heartbroken ever since.  Although her family will miss her more than words can say, they are very happy that she is together again with David in Heaven.  Survivors include, Daughters – Cindy Denise (South) Johnson and husband Scott of Murphysboro and Daphny Dee (South) Blessing of Herrin, Sons – John Harold Beyers of Maryland Heights, Missouri and Joseph Arthur Beyers and wife Kersten of DeSoto.  Sisters – Loretta Wallace of Johnston City, Wanda Gibbs of Herrin and Norma Schemonia of Herrin, Brothers – Jim Gibbs of West Frankfort and Gary Gibbs and wife Patricia of Marion, Nine Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, David, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter – Becky (Beyers) Malkovich, three brothers – Freddie Gibbs, Ezra “Eddie” Gibbs and Robert “Bob” Gibbs.  Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating.  Burial will follow at Whiteash Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 pm – 8 pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.  For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Arnold View Baptist Church.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
