Herrin- Mary Lillian (Capps) Baker, 58 of Herrin formerly of Bush, went to be with her Lord at 1:25 P.M., Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at her home with her family. Mary Lillian was born on April 10, 1943 in St. Louis, MO to Oather & Anna (Qualls) Holland. She married Robert Lee "Bob" Baker on January 25, 1985 at the West Monroe Street Apostolic Church in Herrin. He survives of Herrin. She was a homemaker, but volunteered extensively at West Monroe Street Apostolic Church, where she was a member and taught Sunday school. She was a woman of strong faith and as a result she was described as a hero and inspiration to others in the church newsletter "Around The Pews". To others she was known as "Momma Lasagna" because of her fantastic recipe for lasagna, but her kids and grandkids preferred her dumplings. Survivors: Husband- Bob Baker- Herrin Dtr & Son in law- Theresa & Charles Frost- Herrin Dtr & son in law- Julie & Elvin Pierce- Columbia, IL Son & dtr in law- Tim & Vicky Capps- Energy Daughter- Cheri Robison- Mayfield, KY Dtr & son in law- Christina & Kevin Blades- West Frankfort Son- Robert N. Baker- Herrin Nine grandchildren: Natosha, Talitha, & Matthew Frost- Herrin Benjamin, Sarah, & Rebeccah Pierce- Columbia, IL Larla & T.J. Capps- Energy Patricia Blades- West Frankfort Bro & sis in law- J.C. & Peggy Holland- Bush Bro & sis in law- David & Sherry Holland- Bush Sister- Janet Hall- Bush Sis & bro in law- Jackie & Carl Tweedy- Bush Sis & bro in law- Viola & Oliver Miller- Murphysboro Many cousins, nephews, and nieces Numerous "Adopted" children from church She was preceded in death by her parents, two children; James W. & Mary M. Capps, and two grandchildren; Malissa & Gabriel. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 21, 2001 at the West Monroe Street Apostolic Church. Pastor Terry Griffith will officiate. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday also at West Monroe Street Apostolic Church in Herrin. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to West Monroe Street Apostolic Church and will be accepted both at the church and funeral home.
