Mary Ainslie

October 9, 1928 — February 23, 2020

Mary Ainslie, age 91, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 7:15 a.m. in Herrin Hospital.

Mary was born on October 9, 1928 the daughter of John and Domanica (Mani) Bandera.  Mary did factory work for Allens / Sheller Globe and after nearly 40 years, she retired.  She loved spending time with her family and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.  Mary was an accomplished accordionist, and played for numerous weddings and other events throughout her life.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Carolyn “Susie” Ainslie of Herrin; and her grandson, Adam Ainslie of Herrin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating.  Burial will follow in San Carlo Catholic Cemetery in Herrin.

Visitation will be held at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin on Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, 201 S. 13th St., Herrin, Illinois.
