Kenneth "Bub" Joe Brandon

Kenneth "Bub" Joe Brandon, age 92, of Duquoin, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

Kenneth was born May 03, 1931 in Bush, Illinois, a son of Allen A. and Hazel Irene (Darnell) Brandon. Kenneth grew up in Bush and attended Hurst-Bush Schools. He volunteered to the US Army and served in the Korean War. He is a Purple Heart recipient with 1 cluster. He was a Paratrooper with the 11th Airborne and was discharged as a Sargent First Class. He worked as a Coal Miner at Old Ben #24, and was a Mine Boss for 8 years. He moved to Old Ben #25 and ran the Continuous Miner. He retired in 1990. He was member of Lighthouse Church in Royalton, UMWA, VFW and NRA. He married June D. Dryden in 1982. She passed away July, 6, 2006. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his sons, playing Bingo, cards and putting out a huge garden.

He is survived by two Sons, Randall J. Brandon (Rosa Merrill) of Tehachapi, CA and David A. Brandon of Elkville, IL; nine Grandchildren; twenty-nine Great-Grandchildren; and five Great Great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Daughter, Pamela S. Smith, Daughter-In-Law Linda M. Brandon; Stepsons Mark Sanders, and Joe Sanders; one Grandson, Jacob E. Brandon; his Parents, Allen A. and Hazel Irene Brandon; his first Wife, Nora L. Brandon, second Wife June Delores Brandon; four Brothers , and three Sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. David Betts officiating.  Burial will be at Blairsville Cemetery Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. with full military honors.
