West Frankfort- Karen Johns, 53, passed away at her home with her loving family at her side at 8:30 a.m. Friday August 8, 2008. Karen was born on September 4, 1954 in Christopher, IL to J. O. and Lodema (Parrish) Hudgens. She married Mark Christan Johns on July 20, 1974 at the First Christian Church in West Frankfort, IL. They shared thirty-four happy and loving years of marriage together. Karen was employed as Security Administration Project Manager by Electronic Data Systems for 17 years. She was a life-long resident of West Frankfort, IL, and a life-long member of the First Christian Church. She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University with an Associates Degree in Computer Technology. Karen enjoyed traveling, a good movie, and a great book. Visits to the beach and kisses from her grandchildren were her passions. Survivors include her husband, Mark Johns of West Frankfort, IL; son, Dane Christan Johns of West Frankfort, IL and his fianc Stacy Livengood; daughter, Vanessa Sue Durfee of Paducah, KY, and her husband Kristopher Durfee; two granddaughters, Alicia Karen and Weslyn Fay Durfee; brother Greg Hudgens of Herrin, IL and his fianc Joann Bowman of Herrin, IL; mother-in-law, Eve Johns of Marion, IL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Daredan (Johns) Lampley and Steve Lampley of Marion, IL. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; father-in-law Senator Gene Johns of Marion, IL; brother-in-law Dane Ray Johns of Marion, IL. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008 at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, IL with Rev. Gene Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Marion, IL. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
