Junior Powell

December 5, 1968 — October 31, 2021

Junior Powell, age 52, of Herrin, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021.

Born Estel Lee Powell, Jr. in Marion on December 5, 1968, the son of Margie Ann (Bozarth) and the late Estel Lee Powell, Sr.  He married Lori Samples. She preceded him in death.

Junior loved the outdoors. He was always happy with a fishing pole in one hand and a beer in the other. He enjoyed taking his buggies through mud and getting stuck. Demolition derbies would get him excited, one time even winning the Mad Dog trophy for the hardest hit. Anybody that knew Junior knew he had a gift of singing old country songs. It was an honor to hear him sing.

He was just a good ol' country boy that got a little wild but his heart was pure. Nobody will ever fill his shoes! He loved his family and friends, willing to give the shirt of his back to help anyone. Junior never met a stranger and was loved by everyone.

"Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys."
