John Randall Johnson

Marion- John Randall Johnson (88) of Marion was born February 20, 1930 & entered Heaven on June 15, 2018.  He loved his God, his wife, his family and his friends; he will be missed by all who knew him. John was born and raised in Norris City, IL on February 20, 1930, the son of Randall and Jewell (DeWeese) Johnson.  He studied accounting at SIU-Carbondale.  After graduating in 1951, he began his career at Gray Hunter Stenn CPA’s.  He married the love of his life, Vivian Jean Rose, on July 4, 1963, at the Third Baptist Church in Marion.  Except for a two-year stint in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, he remained at the accounting firm for 50 years, retiring as a senior partner in 2000. After retirement, he devoted his time to enjoying his grandchildren and perfecting his golf game. John was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion since 1963 and treasured his church family.  He enjoyed many great times with golfing buddies at Franklin County Country Club and the brotherhood of Marion Elks #800. John & Jean shared many great adventures with their friends, Peggy & Joe Demaretti and Bob & Jolinda Reimer. John is mourned by his wife of 54 years, Jean Johnson, his son, Randall Johnson (Mary) of Watseka IL, and his daughter, Kimberly Richey (Dean Kelley) of Belleville IL. He was extremely proud of his five grandchildren -- Kayleigh, Kaysay & Dennis Johnson and Christopher & Lauren Richey.  He was preceded in death by his parents- Randall and Jewell (DeWeese) Johnson and sisters Mary Elizabeth (Robert) Blackard and Ruby Marie Johnson. Friends may call on Monday, June 18, from 9:30 AM with the funeral starting at 11:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 1200 South Carbon, Marion, IL.  Rev. Wade Halva and Rev. Dan Whitfield will officiate. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion.  Military honors will be provided by Marion’s American Legion and VFW Posts, Carterville American Legion Post 347, and the United States National Guard. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1200 S.
