John Delill "J.D." Dungey

Marion- John Delill “J.D.” Dungey, 100, of Marion, passed away at 7:35 PM, Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center in Marion. J.D. was born on May 26, 1916 in Macedonia, IL to Harvey and Dora B. (Cremeens) Dungey. He married Mary B. Ivy on June 16, 1936 in New Bunside, IL. Together they enjoyed almost 77 years of marriage. He was a United States Marine, having fought courageously for his country in the South Pacific during WWII. Once honorably discharged he returned home and began a long career in the insurance business. He retired after 33 years with Washington National Insurance Company. He was active civically as a former member of David Herrin #1036 I.O.F. and is an active member of Marion VFW Post #1301. He was also a life member of the Second Baptist Church of Marion and served as the department director of Adult I for 12 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, studying his Bible and spending time with his family. He loved his children, grandchildren and church. J. D. was a hero to all and will be missed by his loving family, friends, and neighbors. Survivors include- Daughter- Marilyn Adams of Brentwood, TN Daughter- Joann Rippy of Mobile, AL Son- Matthew Rippy of Mobile, AL Daughter- Jeannie Wooten and husband Ellis of Marion Daughter- Carolyn Kimmel of Marion Grandchildren: Andy Rippy and wife Terri of Mobile, AL Tammy Lyons and husband Tift of Mobile, AL Jeff Adams and wife Cherie of Santa Rosa, FL Jackie Fontechia and husband Troy of Brentwood, TN Jon Wooten and wife Chris of Paducah, KY Aimee Smith and husband Anthony of Mars, PA Nathan Wooten of Marion Angela Winsor and fiancé John of Marion Jerianne Bruce and husband B.W. of Marion Kellie Reynolds and husband Nathan of Elko New Market, MN Twenty Four Great-Grandchildren Five Great Grandchildren plus one on the way J.D is also survived by longtime special friends; Perry Rex and Sherry and Violet Hindman of Murfreesboro, TN He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister- Virgie Poole, brother in law- Mel Ivy, and sons in law- Herman Rippy, Jr. and Dr. Harry J. Adams, grandson in law- Tony Winsor and nephews- Bobby Poole and Billy Poole. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Dr. Bob Wagner will officiate. Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the United States Marine Corp and the Marion VFW and American Legion Posts. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of service, Tuesday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Memorial donations are suggested to the Marion Second Baptist Church and will be accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home/ 800 N. Market St/ Marion, IL 62959.
