Harold Eugene "Gene" Davis

Herrin- Harold Eugene “Gene” Davis, age 73, of Sunnyside in Herrin, passed away at 5:27pm on Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Marion, surrounded by his sister, Sharon Hardin; cousin, Diane Jeralds Wade; special friends: Rev. Ralph Brandon, Terry Godbey, Allan Hardin, Richard Lentz and the caring staff of the hospital. Eugene was born November 4, 1944 in the Herrin, the son of Joseph and Naomi (Priddy) Davis. He worked at Wahl Clipper in Sterling, Illinois until he retired, later operating his own business in Herrin repairing clippers. Eugene attended the Hurricane Baptist Church in Herrin where he served as a Deacon. He repaired bicycles for several years to donate to children and families in the area. He is survived by his sister, Sharon K. Hardin of Johnston City and several cousins on both sides of the family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Michael Davis, nephew- Mark Rogers, and his grandparents- Elgin and Maude Davis and John and Mary Priddy. Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Brandon and Rev. Jeff Gee officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Herrin American Legion, the Herrin VFW, and the Carterville American Legion Post 347 with assistance from the United States National Guard. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with final arrangements. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Hurricane Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
