Gary Wayne Culbreth, Sr.

Gary Wayne Culbreth, Sr., 71 of Swansea formerly of Pittsburg, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 6:46 pm.  Gary was born February 15, 1945 in Pittsburg, the son of Clyde “Blue” and Virgie Lee (Pulley) Culbreth.    Gary was born and raised in the Pittsburg area.  As young adult, he moved with his family to the greater Chicago area.  The devoted father of four worked for many years as a maintenance mechanic before retiring in the late 1990’s.  In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing solitaire, and trying new foods.  In 2008 he moved back to southern Illinois in failing health to live with one of his daughters; where he enjoyed the remainder of his days  Survivors include his; Son – Gary Culbreth, Jr. and wife Jenni of Seneca Daughter – Melissa Culbreth of Crest Hill Daughter – Mary Balance and husband Dan of Swansea Son – Christopher Culbreth and wife Katie of Crest Hill Eleven grandchildren; Jenna, Jacob, Gillian, Trevor, Dominique, Bacchus, Ethan, Catarina, Joshua, Zachary and Morgan Brother – William “Bill” Culbreth of Chicago Sister – Brenda Moulton of Marion  Preceded by his Parents, brother – Noel Ray Culbreth and infant sister – Marilyn Culbreth.  Memorial services will be Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Mohler officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Paulton.  Visitation will be Thursday from 12 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
