Floyd O. "Smiley" Howell

Floyd Oscar "Smiley" Howell, age 86, of Herrin,  passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022 at his daughter's home in Bush.

Floyd was born March 13, 1936 in Cambria, Illinois, a son of Fred Howell, Sr. and Nettie (Taylor) Howell. Prior to his retirement, he had worked as a school custodian. 

He is survived by five children, Steve L. Howell, Rena Waldron, Cheryl Cooper, Michael Howell, and Keith Howell; one brother, Larry Howell; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Sr. and Nettie (Taylor) Howell and two brothers, Fred Howell and Ralph Howell.

Visitation will be Friday, July 22nd, 2022 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 22, 2022, 1:00 PM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery in Blairsville. 

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Herrin and Carterville Honor Guard Team (American Legion Post 645).

One the best I've never known. Was so kind to everyone. Family and friends list a good man and god gained another good angel. You will be dearly missed my friend. Fly high and RIP.
