Faye Clayton

Delores “Faye” Clayton, 76, of Carbondale, Illinois, formerly of Carterville, passed away at 10:41 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Herrin Hospital.

Faye was born on October 16, 1944 in Carterville, Illinois, a daughter to the late Walter Ray and Harriet Alberta (Robertson) Smith. Faye married Danny Clayton on December 27, 1997 in Marion, Illinois and he survives.

Faye spent her working years in the food industry as a cook at the SIU Student Center. She enjoyed spending her mornings drinking a cup of coffee. She enjoyed being outdoors, going camping, and cooking for the family. She was a member of the Cottage Home Baptist Church.

Faye is survived by her husband, Danny Clayton; biological children, Shelia Mann and Dennis (Jamie) Brown; son, David (Catherine) Clayton; daughters, Kendra (fiancé Tony McCoy) Clayton, Debra (James) Mueller; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild on the way; and brother, David Smith.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Ray and Harriet Alberta Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Thomas L. Monroe officiating. Burial will follow the service at Blairsville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with final arrangements.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, social distancing and the wearing of masks will be required.
