Eugene L. Alumbaugh

Eugene L. Alumbaugh, age 91, of Herrin, Illinois,  passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at his residence.

Eugene was born February 20, 1932 in Edgerton, Wisconsin, a son of Chester and Grace (Herendeen) Alumbaugh.  Eugene was a graduate of Cumberland High School in Greenup, IL.  He joined the US Navy during the Korean War, training as Electronic Tech.  He was assigned to the USS Rehoboth.  During his 33 month service, he traveled 1/4 of a million nautical miles.  He kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland, crossed the Arctic Circle and came very close to crossing the Equator.  He married the love of his life, Patricia J. Owen on October 12, 1952 in Evansville, IN. Eugene started working at Norge in Effingham in 1959.  He worked there thru several name changes, retiring in 1997 from Maytag as Manufacture Representative and Expert Witness of Litigation.   

He is survived by six children, Joan M. (David) Mira of Marshall, IL, Ramona L. Alumbaugh of Carterville, IL, Karen R. Walker (Wes Mills) of Greenup, IL, Cathy J. (Doug) Dickerson of Hurst, IL, Anthony A. (Cindy) Alumbaugh of Nolensville, TN, and Stephen L. Alumbaugh of Herrin, IL; nine grandchildren, Michael (Jolene) Mira, John Mira, Martin E. Stout, Brandon F. Kingery, Chris Walker, Patti Walker, Gary (Jennifer) Dickerson, Richard Alumbaugh, and Kenner Alumbaugh;  Great-Grandchildren, 15;  Great-Great-Grandchildren 2 and one brother, Jack (Carla) Alumbaugh of Neoga, IL .  He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia J. Alumbaugh; his parents, Chester L. and Grace Alumbaugh; and two siblings, Evelyn Phillipi and John Bart Alumbaugh.

Visitation will be Friday, February 9th, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 9, 2024, 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Van Britson officiating. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery with full military honors.
