Ethel Susan Bayles

Herrin-Ethel Susan (Sweeney) Bayles, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 3:56 PM, Monday, September 11, 2017. Sue was born February 12, 1933, in Sulphur, Louisiana, to Mason and Flora Bell (Hewitt) Sweeney. She married James L. Bayles on June 7, 1952, in Lake Charles, LA, he preceded her in death on November 14, 2011. Sue worked for many years at Norge in Herrin but spent most of her time raising her children and loving on her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and dominoes with friends and family. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She is survived by two sons and three daughters, James A. Bayles, Johnny and Arenda Bayles, Debbie and Mark Kiesling, and Connie and Mike Odum, all of Herrin, and Pam and Jeff Martin of Collierville, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda Kiesling of West Frankfort, Joseph and Brandy Martin, of Palm Bay, FL, Jennifer (Martin) and Sean Hamilton of Olive Branch, MS, Alyssa Bayles of Dallas, TX, Shauna Bayles of St. Louis, MO and Blake Counts of Herrin along with eight great-grandchildren, Madison, Cierra, and Angel Kiesling, Malachi Martin and Ella Hamilton, Justice Counts, Skylar and Mia Counts. Sue is also is survived by two brothers, Mason Sweeney, Jr. and J.D. Sweeney, of Louisiana and many special nieces and nephews in Louisiana and Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters- Peggy Vincent, Bobbie Selman and Sherry Castille, brother, Terry Sweeney, infant grandson David William Bayles and step-grandson, Marty Counts. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
