Marion- Edwina Rae Kent, 81, of Marion, passed away at 7:00 PM, Friday, October 26, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Edwina was born on January 17, 1937 in Herrin to Edward F. and Gladys (Neber) Cronin. She married John D. Kent of Marion on August 22, 1961 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1988.
She graduated from Herrin High School where she was active in band and choir, and was a letter girl and member of the thespian club. She was also involved in all youth activities at Herrin First Baptist. After high school she attended SIU and became executive secretary to the director of the VA Hospital in Marion for thirty years. Upon retirement, she worked as an assistant to the Athletic Director at Marion High School.
Wherever she worked or served, she made friends easily because of her high level of compassion and generosity. She had an undaunting faith in God and currently was a member of Marion First Baptist Church. Spending time with her family and friends were the highlight of her activities. She was an avid reader and strongly enjoyed discussing her “latest read” with anyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Michael and one brother- Paul.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Dr. Bob Dickerson will officiate. Inurnment will follow. A time of gathering will begin at 10:30 AM at the cemetery. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Memorial arrangements were made at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
