West Frankfort- Edward Lee Murray, 89, of rural West Frankfort, passed away at 4:42 AM, Monday, June 26, 2017 at Herrin Hospital.
Edward was born on December 19, 1927 to Carl and Hazel Murray. He was a US Navy veteran who served his country courageously during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
Once honorably discharged he returned home. He was retired after having worked many years at his own pace as an electrician. Prior to that he drove the “Toms” roasted peanuts truck for several years.
In his spare time he enjoyed spending time outdoors- hunting, fishing and growing his vegetables.
Survivors include-
Cousin- Charles Murray of Carterville
Friend- Marvin Thompson of Franklin County
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother- Bob Murray.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Herrin City Cemetery. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin and Carterville American Legion and VFW Posts with assistance from the Illinois National Guard. Graveside arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
