Edna Louise Atkins

Edna Louise Atkins, age 76, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 at her home.

Edna was born November 21, 1945 in Marion, Illinois, a daughter of Charles and Vernie (Holderfield) Leeper. She grew up and attended schools in Marion, Illinois and married at age 16, to Elmer E. Atkins Sr. on March 05, 1962 in Marion, IL. Edna worked at CTI Ammunition, Rays BBQ as a waitress and cook, Dairy Queen, and for Laborers International Union #733 doing construction work. Edna enjoyed St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and playing Bingo and lottery. She also enjoyed painting and was loved by everyone that knew her. She was formerly a member of the Moose and Eagles.

She is survived by her three children, Elmer E. Atkins Jr. of Marion, Elizabeth L. Pinkston of Carbondale, IL, and Bertha J. (Bradley) Phillips of Marion, IL; nine grandchildren, April D. (Thomas) Calbreath, Kimberly M. Breeden, James R. Atkins, Elizabeth Marie Hollenbeck, Nicole A. Atkins, Brad L. (Genesa) Phillips, Brittney L. (AJ) Tucker, Rae Anne Walters and Brandyn L. (Mayla) Phillips; six great-grandchildren, Kevin Correll (Fiancee Mallory), Kassie Vaughn, Alyssa Jade Hollenbeck, Kristen Berrimaind, Breeden Berrimaind, and Lorcan Atkins; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by spouse Elmer E. Atkins Sr; daughter-in-law Tina Atkins and son-in-law Rebel Pinkston; two grandchildren, David E. Atkins and Brandy L. Phillips; her parents, Charles and Vernie Leeper; and five siblings, Johnny Leeper, Charles Leeper, Mabel Leeper, Ruth Kinsell, and Sue Stilson.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 25th, 2022 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Mitchell-Hughes funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, 2022, 11:00 AM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Allen officiating. Burial will follow at County Line Cemetery in Creal Springs.
