Duane R. Rick Parks

Duane R. “Rick” Parks, age 63, of rural Marion, Illinois, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Herrin Hospital. Duane was born November 29, 1957 in Harvey, Illinois, a son of Carl D. and Kay F. (Wilt) Parks. He married Terri L. Hill on June 12, 1982.

When Rick was in the 10th grade, his family moved to Crab Orchard and he graduated Crab Orchard High School in 1975. He worked with his dad and later got a job working at Old Ben #26. After the mines closed he sold insurance for Old American Insurance Co. He later worked as a car salesman at Absher-Arnold Motors, and finally worked at Wells Big and Tall clothing store until they closed. His health prevented him from continuing to work. Rick loved music, mowing the grass and gardening. His church was very important to him and was very active in it.
He is survived by his wife Terri L. Parks of Marion, IL; two daughters, Cassandra L.(Joshua) McKinney of Creal Springs, IL and Christa L. Parks of Marion, IL; four grandchildren, Alisyn K. McKinney, Rigley F. McKinney, Chloe K. Parks, and Carly E. Parks; and one sister, Rhonda K. (Ernie) Salazar of Gary, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl D. and Kay F. Parks and one brother, Gary D. Parks.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 1, 2021 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at Arnold View Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 2nd, 2021 at Arnold View Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Cash officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, PO Box 39, Marion, Illinois 62959 or at the church on the day of the service.
