Marion- Donald F. Head, 83, of Marion, passed away at 1:47 AM, Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Herrin Hospital. Donald was born on January 17, 1924 in Evansville, IN to William & Rhoda (Barlett) Head. He married Josephine (Badje) Mayland on November 10, 1987 in Marion. She survives of Marion. Mr. Head served his country during WWII while enlisted in the US Army. He retired from CIPS where he worked many years as a meter tester. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was also a member of Herrin Knights of Columbus #2164, Marion Eagles Club and Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville. Survivors include- Wife- Josephine Head of Marion Son- Gerald Head of Evansville, IN Daughter & son in law- Connie & Joe Johns of Newburgh, IN Daughter & son in law- Linda & Darrell Heineman of Evansville, IN Daughter & son in law- Carol & Dennis Schnell of Evansville, IN Daughter & son in law- Elaine & Dan Fauske of Anchorage, AK Daughter & son in law- Donna & Michael Monchino of Herrin Daughter & son in law- Laura & Gerald Zwiefel of Burt, IA Seventeen Grandchildren: Kim Hagen Kristie Robison Rickey Head Kelley Curl Darrell Head David Johns Lori Sparks Tara Schnell David Fauske Scott Fauske Marcie Cain Matthew Monchino Jason Monchino Michael Monchino Ashley Jo Zwiefel Justin Zwiefel Travis Peay Fifteen Great Grandchildren Sister in law- Bertha Head of Evansville, IN Several nieces & nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers- Earl, Elmer, Thomas & Charles T. Head, three sisters- Rosalie Head, Rita Reinhart, & Mary Jane Payne. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 2, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Evansville, IN and will be officiated by Fr. Henry Kuykendall. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Tuesday, January 1, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. An hour of visitation will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery from 2-3:00 PM, Wednesday. Memorial donations are suggested to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church or the American Lung Association and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the intensive care unit at Herrin Hospital.
