Danny Ray Long

Marion- Danny Ray Long, age 77, of Marion, passed away at 10:00am on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his home in Marion. Danny was born in Herrin on December 16, 1940, and raised the son of Pauline (Belt) and John Payne, Sr. He married Elnora “Ellie” Black in Marion on June 14, 1975. She survives in Marion.  Prior to his retirement, Danny worked as a truck driver. Survivors include his loving wife of forty-two years- Ellie Long of Marion Son- Keith and Donna Rose of Louisville, Kentucky Daughter- Leva Long of Marion Daughter- Rhonda Rye of Georgetown, Indiana Five Grandchildren- Darren and Courtney Morris of Great Falls, Montana Benjamin Rose of Louisville, Kentucky Daniel Rose of Louisville, Kentucky William Connelley of Marion Ashlyn Connelley of Marion Three Great Grandchildren- Haileigh, Taiden, and Cooper Morris of Great Falls, Montana Brother- John Payne, Jr of Herrin Three Sister-in-laws- Hazel and Junior Johnson of Clarksville, Tennessee Judy Black of Cunningham, Tennessee Frances Black of Palmyra, Tennessee Several Nieces and Nephews Extended Family- Dottie Moskop and her son Steven of Marion He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters- Sandra Boots and Loretta Stafford, and niece- Heather Boots. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Terry Griffith officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11-1pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
