Colleen Mausey

MARION -- Phyllis Colleen Mausey, age 78, of Creal Springs, passed away peacefully at 8:34 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, surrounded by family at her home. She was born Wednesday, July 28, 1939 in Marion, the oldest daughter of William Everett (Bud) Wharry and Mildred Bernice Wharry. Colleen was a 1956 graduate of Crab Orchard High School and continued her education at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, graduating in 1958. Colleen married the love of her life, C. W. Mausey, on August 30, 1958.    Together they shared 60 years of marriage. Colleen worked as a teaching assistant  at Crab Orchard Elementary School and also at the Hearing Impaired School in Marion, Illinois.  Colleen worked alongside C.W. for many years in businesses including real estate, rentals, resale, and farming. C.W. and Colleen enjoyed traveling for many years within the United States and all over the world, including Egypt, Israel, Japan, Panama, Alaska, Nova Scotia, Europe and Ireland. She enjoyed learning new things, and especially enjoyed technology.  She liked using her computer, iPhone, and eBay.  She lived her life with a sense of adventure, fun, and a sense of humor. Colleen was an active member of Arnold View Free Will Baptist Church.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, including all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew her as “Maw-Maw”. She is survived by her husband C. W. Mausey of Creal Springs; two sons, Ken Mausey and wife Sharon Mausey of Creal Springs, Gary Mausey and wife Lori Mausey of Marion; and a daughter Sandra Brainard and husband Mike Brainard of Marion.; seven grandchildren, Sean Mausey and wife Jamie Mausey of Marion, Julie Tecklenburg and husband Alex Tecklenburg of Christopher, IL, Sarah Pyron and husband Dylan Pyron of Carterville,  Michelle Kissing and husband Ray Kissing of Marion and David Brainard and fiancée Kari Robertson , both of Marion, and the twins, Abby and Natalie Mausey, also of Marion, five great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters .She is also survived by a sister Carolyn Cooper and husband Bill Cooper of Coffeen, IL,  brother-in-law, Jerry Bailey of Marion, brother-in-law, Gale Mausey and wife Melba Mausey,  sisters-in-law, Dola Mausey,  and Rose Mausey. She was preceded in death by her parents Bud and Mildred Wharry, an infant brother Harold, a sister Marlene Bailey, and brothers-in-law, Robert Mausey, Sr. and Lowell Mausey. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Bro. Ivan Ryan of Arnold View Free Will Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00am until noon on Wednesday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Arnold View Free Will Baptist Church and mailed in care of Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 N. Market St., Marion, IL 62959. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
