Cathy Rollo Earnhart
Cathy Rollo Earnhart, age 74, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away early Sunday morning, May 22, 2022 at her home in Murphysboro, Illinois.
Cathy was born November 28, 1947 in Carbondale, Illinois, a daughter of James and Mildred (Hampton) Rollo.
She is survived by her son, Nathan Earnhart and wife April of Benton; grandson Jackson Earnhart of Benton; daughter-in-law Nikki Earnhart of Springfield; sister Jami Knight of Summerville, South Carolina; numerous other relatives and a large host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Jason Dodd Earnhart.
Cathy grew up in Zeigler, where she made many friends and fond memories. She attended Southern Illinois University's VTI where she studied commercial art before moving to Champaign, while working at the University of Illinois. After taking time off to raise her family on a small Union County farm, she book ended her career with time at the U of I Extension service and finally at SIU where she was a graduate secretary in the history department among other roles.
Cathy was a loving mother and proud grandma. She never failed to send unique gifts and cards for birthdays and holidays. Her unpredictable sense of humor will be missed. She was an accomplished artist who loved to create through all artistic mediums. Over the years, she also shared her heart and home with many felines. She was a proud "cat lady".
There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite local animal charity. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with final arrangements.
So very sorry to hear about your loss. Cathy was a friend long ago. Prayers for your family.

Cathy and I grew up together. The Rollo family lived behind my family in Zeigler. I am very sorry to hear of her passing. She was a most delightful person. I was a year younger than her.

Cathy was one of my very good friends. We were extremely good friends in high school and did everything together. She was so talented in many ways. She was a great artist and could play a number of musical instruments. We have laughed together, cried together and loved life in general over so many years together. RIP my dear friend until we meet again.

You loved your sons so much and were such a good mom. When we met, you were not sure about me and were fiercely protective. I admired that and already knew I found a good family.
Over the years our friendship and appreciation grew. We would get together for holiday and stay up late, just you and me, and talk about the past, present, and future, both loving the mutual people in our lives. Many an e-mails were exchanged. I know you cannot hear me but thank you for all the gifts over the years, cards, and sympathies. You made family get togethers great, and I'll always cherish our trip to Atlanta together.
I admired your crafts and talent and enjoyed your stories and sayings. They were an active part of Jason and my lives. You touched him deeply. He adored you, as I'm sure you knew. Very few people were in that category. He would be so very sad to lose you.
I hope you knew how much I cared about you, too, and I was already missing you dearly since Covid prevented us all from getting together. Now I will miss you for the rest of my life.
