Carlyle Ray Sims

Marion – Carlyle Ray Sims, 88, of Marion, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 9:43 pm at his home lovingly surrounded by his family. Carlyle was born June 13, 1929 in Marion the son of Ray and Aria (Tanner) Sims.  He married Louann Bruce on February 3, 1951 in Marion and together they have shared over 67 years of marriage. He proudly answered the call to serve his country. Following the war, while serving in the Army, he was stationed in Okinawa and Japan.  Carlyle was a proud graduate of Purdue University, which he loved dearly. He received his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and Masters Degree from Krannert School of Business, both from Purdue University.  Community was of great importance to him.  He served on several boards including the Marion Park Board and Williamson County Fair Board and volunteered countless hours as a volunteer and manager for the Marion Little League program. He is survived by his; Wife – Louann (Bruce) Sims of Marion Nieces; Diana Murphy and husband Mike of Peachtree City, Georgia Rebecca Lawrence of Riverside, California Annette Walker and husband Darrel of Riverside, California Jannette Johnson and husband Allen of Riverside, California Kim Adams and husband Dave of San Juan Capistrano, California Carole Whitmore and husband Henry of Stroudsberg, Pennsylvania Susan Humphrey and husband Mike of Marion Sally Reese and husband Doug of Barrington Jane Hargis of Marion Nephew –B.W. Bruce and wife Jerianne of Marion Sister-in-law – Lois Jane Bruce of Marion Special friends – Peggy and Ray Altmix of Marion Many longtime friends and golfing partners He was preceded in death by his Parents, Son – Darrell Bruce Sims, Sister – Loretta Moake and her husband J.T. Moake, Brother-in-law – Ben Bruce, Sister-in-law – Lorelei Bujdoso and her husband Ted. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.  Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Darrell B. Sims Cancer Research Foundation or the Darrell B. Sims Memorial Scholarship, Lyles School of Civil Engineering.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home; 800 N.
