Herrin- Carl W. "Drum" Hall, 90, of Herrin died at 3:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at the Marion Veterans Administration Hospital. Carl was born on March 11, 1911 in Freeman Spur, IL to John Morgan & Ann (Penrod) Hall. He married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Newcombe, whom he met while stationed in England during WWII, on June 2, 1945 in Biddeford, England. They were married for 55 wonderful years. Mr. Hall began his working career as a coal miner for Old Ben Coal. He retired in 1976 from Norge Company in Herrin where he worked as a lineman. Carl was of protestant faith. He enjoyed running bird dogs and fishing at Crab Orchard Lake with his "fishing buddies". He was a WWII Army veteran and was enlisted with the Medic Corps. He was a member of the Herrin VFW and the local UMWA. Survivors: Wife- Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Hall- Herrin Beloved Nephew- Albert Hall Several other nieces and nephews Many close friends He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Earl Hall, and two sisters; Henrietta and Nell. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. on Monday, July 23, 2001 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Jerry Schell, Pastor of Lone Oak American Baptist Church in Energy, will officiate. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts will perform military Rites at the graveside. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Lone Oak Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
