Betty A. Montgomery

Betty A. Montgomery, age 94, of Goreville, Illinois,  passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

Betty was born April 06, 1928 in Carterville, Illinois, a daughter of Louie and Ella (Armstrong)  McGee. Betty grew up south of Carterville on the family farm and her family moved to Marion while she was in her teens.  She attended Marion High School.  She married the love of her life, Rev. Perry L. "P.L." Montgomery on November 02, 1946 in Oseola, Arkansas.  The couple moved to a farm in Cypress, IL  and moved to Pulleys Mill in 1972.  Betty loved being a ministers wife and assisting her husband with his ministry.  She also enjoyed gardening and cooking and was always active in her church.  She was a member of Southern Baptist Church and attended Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church.   

She is survived by two sons, Rev. Gorden L. (Shirley) Montgomery of Goreville, IL and Garry D. (Marilyn) Montgomery of Pittsburg, IL; six grandchildren, Kelly D. (Julie) Montgomery, Perry L. (Dawn) Montgomery, Cheri J. (David) Blumenstock, Monica A. Gieman, Mindy D. (Brent) Gresham, and Tamzen (Tony) Edwards; her fifteen great-grandchildren, and Three great-great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Perry L. "P.L." Montgomery; her parents, Louie and Ella McGee; and two sisters.

Visitation will be Monday, August 1st, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church.  Funeral service will be follow Monday, August 1, 2022, 12:00 PM at Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will follow at McKinney Chapel Cemetery. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
