Betty Lou Lavender

Betty Lou Lavender, 74, of Herrin, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 7: 14 am at Herrin Hospital.

Betty was born April 5, 1948 in Herrin the daughter of Virgil and Berneice (Atterberry) Vancil. She married Dennis Lavender on March 2, 1968 in Herrin and together they shared over 37 years of marriage until his death on January 4, 2006.

She worked at Conrad Optical and O'Sullivan Optical in Herrin for several years. Betty was a member of the Harvest Time Worship Center in Herrin. She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, ceramics and playing the piano and organ.

Betty is survived by her: Sister, Sheena (Dennis) Vancil of Blairsville, Brother, Curtis (Lynn) Vancil of Thompsonville. Aunt, Peggy (Ray) Crow of Herrin, Uncle, Carrold (Dorothy) Atterberry of Herrin, Brother-in-laws, Jim (Dawn) Lavender of Carbondale, Roy (Sharon) Lavender of Energy and Special Friend, Charles Barlow of Christopher.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Dennis Lavender, Brothers, Ray and Rickie Vancil and several Aunts & Uncles.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 9 am to 11 am at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Thursday with Pastor Todd Hawk officiating. Burial will follow in Blairsville Cemetery.
