Betty L. Smorczeski

Herrin- Betty L. Smorczeski, 87 of Herrin, formerly of Buckner, passed away at 9:00 PM, Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Hurricane Creek Assisted Living Center in Herrin. Betty was born on August 3, 1931 in Benton to Vallie and Jessie Cook. She married Vince Smorczeski on September 5, 1959 at the shoe factory in Benton, IL. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2014. She worked as a CNA at Herrin Hospital for 22 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Herrin and the Herrin Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing with her beloved dog, “Co Co”, and planting beautiful flowers, especially roses. Survivors include- Son- Charles “Chico” Bowlin and wife Vicki of Christopher 5 Grandchildren: Benjamin Bowlin and wife Niki of Christopher Joshua Bowlin and wife Kara of Webster Grove, MO Ami Schiff and husband Jesse of Christopher Lisa Sink of Christopher Steven Brown and wife Lisa of Marion Great Grandchildren: Emeri Bowlin and Reed Bowlin Gabriel Schiff and Lincoln Schiff Blair Bowlin, Ellie Bowlin and Josie Bowlin Travis Sink and Damon Sink Beloved dog- “Co Co” She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter- Barbara Bowlin, brothers- Loyd and Charles Cook and sister- Marilyn Cook. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 1, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Matt Frizzell will officiate. Burial will follow at Zeigler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of service, Monday, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
