Bethana Marion Brixey

Bethana Marion Brixey, age 88, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Shawnee Senior Living Center in Herrin, Illinois.

As per her wishes, no services will be held at this time. Private inurnment will take place at Herrin City Cemetery at a later date.

Bethana was born November 15, 1933 in Herrin, Illinois, a daughter of Howard and Edna Wiggins. She married the love of her life, James W. Roscoe on February 22, 1980 at the First Methodist Church in West Frankfort. She is survived by her spouse James W. Roscoe of Herrin, IL; her adopted daughter, Vickie Hoffard of Marion, IL; and her Special Friends, Jessie Garris and the Garris Family of Pittsburg, IL, and the many special friends of the Cruiser Band.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son- Robert Howard "Toby" Brixey.

A native of Herrin, Bethana came from a musical family. Her grandfather was Mayor Big John Murray. Bethana had a powerful opera voice and at 14 years of age, even sang at the St. Louis auditorium. She enjoyed singing in churches and nightclubs and performing at weddings. During the day, she took great pride in working at the Herrin High School cafeteria, where she worked until she retired.
