Herrin- Ben Joseph Emery, age 71, of Herrin, passed away at 1:07pm on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at his home in New Burnside.
Ben was born in Herrin on September 18, 1949, the son of Harold Dean and Frances (Tauro) Emery. He married Dianna Simmons in Herrin on September 22, 2001.
Ben had retired from Maytag and had worked as a tool and dye maker. He was a proud United States Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Ben was a member of the VFW. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed time spent on his Harley.

Sister- Lisa Emery and Debbie Gosnell of Herrin

He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard Ritual Team comprised of the Carterville American Legion Post 347, the Herrin American Legion Post 645, and Herrin V.F.W. Post 1567 with assistance from the National Guard Ritual Team. A time of visitation will be held from 11-1pm on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
