Bart Ray Lindsey

Herrin- Bart Ray Lindsey, 77, of Herrin, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle against cancer at 6:00 PM, Friday, December 2, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Bart was born on August 29, 1939 in Herrin to Howard Ray and Esther Rena (Orso) Lindsey.  He graduated from Herrin High School in 1957 and was a player on the 1957 State Championship basketball team.  He was elected to the IHSA Basketball Hall of Fame and the Herrin High School Hall of Fame.  He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Young, on August 17, 1962 in Carterville.  She preceded him in death on August 19, 2007 after 45 years of marriage. Bart worked as a sheet metal worker for Fritz Company for 35 years and then worked as the foreman of the Physical Plant at SIU-C until his retirement in 2003. He loved all sports, playing cards with friends, trips to the River Boat and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was a member of the Herrin Elks Club. Survivors include- Daughter- Debbie Howard and husband Kenny of Herrin Son- Darren Lindsey and wife Nancy of Herrin 3 Grandchildren- Zack Lindsey of Herrin Charlie Bart Howard of Herrin Kenna Kay Howard of Herrin Sister- Dolores McConnell and husband Ron “Peanuts” of Herrin Brother- Brad Lindsey and wife Samara of Clemmons, NC Sister in laws- Nanette Green Jackie Woods Robbie Mezo Tammy Winter Kathy McCabe Leanne Rose Many loving nieces and nephews and lifelong friends He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Bart’s wishes were to be cremated.  Memorial arrangements were arranged through Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
