North Judson, IN August "Augie" L. Wickert, 77, formerly of Marion passed away at 10:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2001 at his residence in North Judson. Funeral services will be held at the St. Luke United Church of Christ in San Pierre, IN at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, with Rev. Lary Sakel officiating. Burial will be at San Pierre Cemetery. Visitation will be held at O'Donnell funeral home in North Judson, Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Luke United Church of Christ or August Wickert 4H Auction Memorial Fund. Memorial contributions may be sent to Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home c/o Wickert Memorials P.O. Box 39 Marion, IL 62959. Augie was born June 8, 1924 in Marion, IL to August F. and Mara R. (Wohlwend) Wickert. They both preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Elaine (Soberg) Wickert May 31, 1947 in Maywood, IL. She survives in North Judson. Mr. Wickert served in World War II and was a prisoner of war for 13 months in Germany. After the war he graduated from the University of Illinois and taught vocational agriculture for five years. He then moved to North Judson, IN where he was part owner of a fertilizer business for 14 years and a full time farmer and hog producer for 23 years. After retiring from farming, he operated Wickert Soil Service in northern Indiana until his death. Mr. Wickert was a member of Saint Luke United Church of Christ in San Pierre, IN and served as a Sunday school Teacher, Church Council Member and past Council President. He was also a 4-H club leader, and served on the Starke County Livestock Committee, and as a Farm Bureau Board member. He and Elaine raised a large family consisting of four sons: Gary & Margaret Wickert of Rensselaer, IN - Larry & Marilyn Wickert of North Judson, IN - Brian & Patricia Wickert of Viroqua, WI - and Dean & Lynn Wickert of Harrison, OH - Three Daughters: Marilyn & Donald Wallace of Rossville, IN - Janis Wickert of North Judson, IN - and Alice & Charles Paulsen of North Judson, IN. Nineteen grandchildren - Two Brothers Harold & Edith Wickert of Carlsbad, NM - Paul & Easter Wickert of Sun City, AZ - Three sisters: Caroline & Howard Sims of Pittsburg, IL - Esta Mae Fowler of Pittsburg, IL - and Mara Lou and Richard Hubert of Odessa, TX. - and several nieces and nephews.
