Arlie King, 94, of Marion passed away on Friday, June 09, 2017 at 9:40 am at the VA Medical Center. Arlie was born July 1, 1922 in Goreville the son of Claude and Ruth (Durham) King. He married Mae Eloise Cline on November 30, 1940 in Jackson, Missouri and together they shared over 72 years of marriage until her death on August 21, 2013. Arlie King was from that Great Generation - he fought for his country, and was wounded at The Battle of the Bulge. He worked hard for his family - he and his brother Laverne operated Harrisburg Coal for many years, and as well, they owned King's Fuel Company, and a trucking company. Quarter horses were his passion, and you will find his name in the AQHA and the IQHA Halls of Fame. Arlie was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He will be missed by all, but never forgotten. Survivors include his; Daughter – Darlene King of Marion Four grandchildren; Michelle Borum (Kevin) of Marion David Hays (Carla) of Herrin Stephanie Fulton (Tim) of Marion Scott Thompson (Brittany) of Marion Eight great grandchildren; Dustin Borum (Andrea) of Carterville Darrick Borum of Marion Megan Wagner (Robert) of Marion Nick Hays of Herrin Morgan Metten of Marion Maci Metten of Marion Cooper Thompson of Marion Sloane Thompson of Marion Great great grandchild – Charlotte Wagner of Marion Sister – Shirley Odum of Marion Brother – J.B. King (Mary) of Marion Several nieces and nephews Proceeded in death by his Parents, Wife, Son – Arlie “A.J.” King, Jr., two Brothers – Leon and Lavern King and one Sister – Wanda Mae Atnip Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 1 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Pastor Darrick Borum officiating.  Burial will follow in Egyptian Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Military rites will be provided  by members of the Herrin Military Ceremonial Team comprised of the Freeman Spur American Legion, Herrin American Legion, and Herrin VFW Post with assistance provided by the  National Guard Flag Detail Unit.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the VA Community Living Center. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
