Angie Bergin

Herrin- Mary Angelina (Branca) Bergin, 94, of Herrin, passed away at 8:10 PM, Monday, July 18, 2016 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Angie was born on December 29, 1921 in Herrin to Robert and Louise (Merlo) Branca. She married Emmett Robert Bergin on August 22, 1950 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He preceded her in death. Upon graduation in 1936, the American Legion Award was awarded to Angie Branca.  It was based on grades, community service and scholarship. After graduating high school she worked several years as a bookkeeper for Marlow’s Service Station and H&H in Herrin. She retired as the bookkeeper at Diagraph Bradley. Angie was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and working in the yard, raking leaves or planting flowers. She was always ready to help out a neighbor or friend. She also enjoyed watching “Family Feud” with host Steve Harvey, going to the movies with her friends and watching Lawrence Welk and listening to Big Band music. When she was younger, she would dance away the hours at White City Park in Herrin. Angie is survived by two nephews and their wives, Bob and Marsha Branca of Herrin and John and Nancy Branca of Tuscola; three nieces, Christine Mattingly and husband Bill of Herrin, Rita Leahy of Sacramento, CA and Margie Turner and husband Steve of Tucson, AZ; three great nieces, Anita Hale and husband Mark of Carterville, Natalie Huppert and husband Bill of Murphysboro and Allison Branca of Tuscola; and four great nephews, Scott Branca and wife Susan of Tuscola, Joe Mattingly and wife Kasey of Herrin, Jonathan Mattingly of Energy and Daniel Mattingly of Indianapolis, IN and seven great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Emmett R. Bergin, four brothers, Charles Branca, John Branca, Sr., Ernest Branca and Joe Branca and one great nephew, Robby Branca. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 22, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 6pm-9pm at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The Rosary will begin at 6:00 PM also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church New School Fund and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/201 South 13th/Herrin, IL 62948.
