Alta Leona Evans Eckols

Alta Leona (Evans) Eckols, 87, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 3:50 pm at her home in Marion. Alta was born July 3, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana the son of John William and Minnie (Whetstone) Evans. She married Ralph Eckols on November 1, 1969 in Benton and he preceded her in death in 1977. She was member of Angelville Church in Poordo. Alta retired after 20 years as a CNA at Fountain Nursing Home. Survivors include her: Son – Paul Ashby and wife Mary Lou of Pittsburg Daughter – Nancy Finney of Lake of Egypt Daughter – Marsha Aud of Dayton, Florida Daughter – Rebecca Smith and husband Rick of Marion Eleven grandchildren; Daniel Harris Eric Ashby Autumn Karns Adam Ashby Matthew Finney Kearston Wall Emily Wilson Jessica Whittle Caleb Wall Bobby Finney Dale Finney Twelve great grandchildren Four sisters; Dorothy Knight of Carmi Betty Young of Enfield Janet Johnson of Carmi Patty Rogas of Lexington, Kentucky Brother – Jimmy Fisher of Sylacauga, Alabama Sister-in-law – Von Fisher of Grayville Preceded by her Parents, Husband – Ralph Eckols, Sisters – Virginia Evans, Peggy King, Brothers – David Evans, Robert Evans, Martin Fisher. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 12 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Jean officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant – Poordo Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant – Poordo Cemetery or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
