Herrin- Jerry Ray Mezo, age 75, of Herrin, passed away at 6:20pm on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Herrin Hospital.

Jerry was born in Herrin on July 23, 1945, the son of Horace and Wanda (Fox) Mezo. He married Cheryl Finney in Herrin in August of 1974. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2010. He later married Mary Delores “Sadie” (Williams) Tolbert in Herrin on June 23, 2016. She survives in Herrin.

Prior to Jerry’s retirement, he had worked various positions at Maytag. He was a member of Christian Covenant Fellowship. He always looked forward to breakfast with his brothers, traveling, playing Bingo, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will forever be remembered was a child at heart.

Survivors include his wife- Mary “Sadie” Mezo of Herrin

Daughter- Brandy and Lance Haas of Sorento, IL

Son- Troy and Thelma Steele of Missouri

Daughter- Tracy Steele of Herrin

Step-Daughter- Patricia Tolbert of Marion

Step-Son- Bobby Tolbert of Herrin

Step-Daughter- Belinda Tolbert of Herrin

Eleven Grandchildren

Ten Step-Grandchildren

Eleven Great Grandchildren

Twenty Step- Great Grandchildren

Brother- Frank and Virginia Mezo of Herrin

Brother- Don and Lucy Mezo of Marion

Brother- Ron Mezo of Herrin

Brother- Winston Mezo of Carbondale

Several Nieces and Nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Gene Crain and Pastor Brent Pyles officiating. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. A time of visitation will be held from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
