David Leon Stacey, age 66, of Herrin, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 1:28 a.m. in Herrin Hospital.

David was born on August 26, 1954 in Chicago, a son of Doris Leon and Cecilia (Elwood) Stacey. He worked several jobs throughout his working career, but most recently worked as a tree trimmer until his health no longer allowed him to. David was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his dog, Scooter.

Survivors include his significant other, Angie Hiller of Herrin; five children, David Todd (Rachel) Stacey of Johnston City, Shannon Stacey (Kellie McClure) of Herrin, Treena Stacey (Chad Johnston) of Herrin, Jon Stacey of Herrin, Chris Stacey (Troy Lacy) of Herrin; one brother, Harvey Stacey; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his significant other’s children, Natasha Hiller and Christina Hiller and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Thomas Stacey, Bobby Stacey; two sisters, Marianne Sloan, Sandy Houghlan; and one granddaughter, Brianna Johnston.

A graveside memorial service will be held at San Carlo Catholic Cemetery in Herrin on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Don Colson officiating. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, social distancing is advised and the wearing of masks is encouraged.

Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with the arrangements.

    I’m so sorry for your loss. David was a good man. He would do anything for anyone. He was like one of our family because we knew each other for years an grew up together. We’re really going to miss him. I thought a lot of him. He loved to fish. You will always be in our hearts. REST IN PEACE
