David G. McDonough

May 7th, 1935 - May 24th, 2020

David G. McDonough, age 85, of Marion, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. during his stay at The Voyage Senior Living in Marion.

Dave was born on May 7, 1935, in Chicago, the son of John and Marcella (Hoppe) McDonough. He married Mavis Claire McKenzie on August 23, 1963 in Evanston, Illinois and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2016 after 53 years of marriage. Dave was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked in agriculture sales and research for Union Carbide, was an avid golfer as well as woodworker, and was of the Catholic faith. Dave enjoyed boating, landscaping and drinking coffee with his friends, but mostly spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie McDonough Bove and husband, Matthew of Greenbrae, California; his grandson, Luca Bove; his brother-in-law, Roy Johnson of Streamwood, Illinois; nephew, Scott Johnson and wife, Kim; and niece, Vicki Pekara and husband, Bill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mavis Claire McDonough; and a sister, Jan Johnson.

A private graveside memorial service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with Reverend Carl Mesiti officiating.

Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.

For those who prefer, memorials may be made to a worthy organization that was close to Dave’s heart after losing his wife, Mavis, the Alzheimer’s Association.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.

    Even though I only knew David a
    few months . It was like we knew each other forever ..He always greeted me with a smile 😁 We would comment to each other about politics lol …..Missing those comments already … My thoughts and prayers are with his family …

    Very sorry to hear of Dave’s passing, my deepest sympathies to your family. I knew Dave for many years in the agri chemical business, and got a chance to play golf on several occasions. He was always lots of fun, and a great guy. He will be missed to be sure
