Harry L. Smith, 65, of Herrin, IL passed away peacefully at Herrin Hospital on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. Harry worked at Maytag for 32 years. Harry was devoted to his family, friends, pets, and his best friend Marly. He enjoyed swimming, playing pool, bingo, and piddling around.

Harry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Olan and Dorothy Hall; parents, Thomas and Joyce (Colp) Smith; aunt, Shirley George ; uncles, Jerry Hall and Bobby Hall; sister, Terra Smith; nephew, Brian Smith; and sister-in-law, Sharon Smith.

Harry is survived by his wife, Leota (Colp) Smith; son, Shawn Smith; two daughters, Summer (Charlie Hemphill) Rogers and Alana (Mike) Short; four grandchildren, Dane (Sierra) Brown, Hunter Brown, Autumn Cofield, and Alivia Cofield; four great-grandchildren, Karson, RoseLynn, DJ, and baby due in May; brother, Howard (Debbie) Smith; sisters, Barb Wagstet and Sandy Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Herrin Hospital and Shawnee Christian Village for taking such good care of Harry while he was in their care. We appreciate everything you did. Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Matthew Crain will officiate. A time of visitation will be held from 11am until 2pm on Monday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.

Memorial donations are requested to be made to the family in care of Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home to help with final expenses. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.

    Harry was always smiling when I saw him. He was such a wonderful person kind and friendly to our family. He was a wonderful grandfather to my nieces. I know my aunt Mattie and Muffet is welcoming him to heaven. I pray God gives his family peace and strength. Love Heather
